About

ResidenceSEA –  Sensing your Environment through Art was a 5 years experimental artist in residence in Heraklion, Crete.

From 2012 to 2017 ResidenceSEA hosted more than 40 international artists in Heraklion (see Previous artists).  ResidenceSEA was inviting and facilitating international artists, engaging in a dialogue between art, science, and technology to open up culture and contemporary art in Heraklion. The project was self organizes and based on the principle of sharing knowledge, and facilitate the collaboration between invited international artists and the local community in Crete to open up knowledge around art, science, and technology in Heraklion.

Michela Pelusio ran ResidenceSEA with an international team of artists living in Heraklion: Roberta Bellante coordinator, Antje Larsen photographer, Vasilis Flouris filmmaker, Marietta Grammatikaki sound engineer, Thomas Aka Ri Fa sound artist, Mathew Halpin painter, and many other local artists who loved the project and collaborated with us.

This model changed the cultural scene of Heraklion city and since then new spaces dedicated to experimental art were born in the city.

By the end of 2017 the sea had swallowed too much sand around the building, flooding it for most of the winter season and it was closed in 2018.
